The Support You Wish You Had

Current

Looking back, what kind of support — from family, friends, a professional, or a community — do you wish had been there for you sooner? What would it have changed?

Looking back over the last few months, I fell into a really dangerous trap: I connected my entire self-worth to getting a job. I let myself believe that everything in my life depended on that next offer, and it turned the whole search into a massive mental health struggle.

I realized I might need support when I found myself sitting alone at my desk day after day, realizing my anxiety and mood for the week completely depended on an automated email response.
Treating the job search like a 24/7 obsession was destroying my peace. I still want a job, but I’ve finally accepted that a job doesn't define who I am.

I wish I had learned to be deeply selective sooner.
Once I narrowed my professional focus, I also became highly selective with how I spent my days. Instead of letting the job hunt consume my identity, I intentionally filled my time with a chosen mix of meaningful things
1. Doing part-time work that supports specific, meaningful missions.
2. reading fiction and spending time on learning new skills (Tennis, Bouldering, etc).
3. Prioritizing my body through movement, health, and quality time with family and friends
This has helped me a lot to understand how my whole personality affects my mental health.
